Climate of Chengdu
Chengdu, situated in the Sichuan Basin, has a subtropical monsoon climate. With an average annual temperature of 16°C (61°F), the climate is quite temperate. It is characterized with fogginess and humidity. Therefore, it is very muggy in summer though not too hot. On the other hand in winter, the average temperature hardly goes down to 5°C (41°F) although it feels a bit bleak. The better months to visit the city would be in the months of March, April, May, June, September, October and November.
In January, the mean temperature is 5.6°C (42.1°F) with -5.9°C (21.4°F) being the lowest. In July and August, the temperature averages approximately 25°C (77°F), although it may reach a terrible 37°C (98.6°F). The annual precipitation is around 1,000 millimeters (39.4 inches) and the rainy season comes in July and August. It is very foggy in autumn and rainless winter, and foggy days lasts for more than two months. In November and December, fogs days add up to over a month.
